2016-17 SLEQ-TPG KEY FINDINGS

HKU conducts institutional surveys on students’ learning experiences for taught postgraduates (SLEQ-TPG) on an annual basis for teaching and learning quality assurance and continuous improvement. All final year taught postgraduate students were invited to participate in the SLEQ-TPG.

Highlights of Findings

  • Overall performances on Achievement of Educational Aims, Teaching and Learning Environment, and Overall Satisfaction remained steady over years, ranging from 3.87 to 4.04 in the 2016-17 administration (Figure 1).
  • In the 2016-17 SLEQ-TPG, taught postgraduate students gave the highest rating rated highest on Knowledge and Skills developed from their programmes, followed by Active Learning, Relevance to Practice and Teacher-Student Relationships.
  • Open-ended comments of the SLEQ-TPG were visualised in comparison word cloud to highlight the keywords most frequently mentioned in students’ written comments on questions pertaining to “Best Aspect(s) of Programme” and “Suggestion(s) for Programme Improvement” (Figure 2).
Detailed results at the institutional, Faculty and curriculum levels are available at the online Institutional Survey Reports System (ISRS). This System enables Faculties to dynamically generate survey reports at various levels and make comparisons across administration years. All academic staff and administrative staff with access right granted can directly access the System after logging on to the HKU Portal account (HKU Portal > Self Service > Teaching and Learning > Institutional Survey Reports > View Reports). Detailed instructions on using the System are available in the User Manual, downloadable here.
Faculties are also welcome to contact Dr. Maggie Zhao at myzhao @ hku.hk for support in interpreting and utilizing survey data, and Ms. Yvonne Chan at chanyyw @ hku.hk for technical support in using the System.
