PRESENTING AT INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT CONFERENCE

T&LEMU Director Dr. Maggie Zhao attended the 44th International Association for Educational Assessment (IAEA) annual conference at the University of Oxford in early September. She delivered a presentation entitled “Evidence-based learning assessment: Using “big data” for informing education practice and enhancing student learning”.

Dr. Zhao started her talk with an overview of the global trends in learning outcome assessment in higher education, and continued with an introduction of HKU’s Student Learning Experience Questionnaire (SLEQ) and two empirical studies about how T&LEMU uses student data for quality assurance and enhancement of teaching and learning. The presentation ended with articulating a set of reflections and recommendations that educational researchers and practitioners can review in student assessment and the use of big data for quality improvement.

The Chair hosting the session positively commented on the sophisticated and rigorous approach that T&LEMU utilized for supporting teaching and learning. Audiences from Mainland China, Europe, Africa and South America also showed great interests in T&LEMU’s assessment/evaluation practices.
